==Riaan's Quarters==

After a well rested night at Qul Tuq Riaan got up early to see how many interviews were set that day.

Riaan walked over to her computer and seen 6 people were booked for the day that had applied for the position in the mess hall. The first interview was at 0900 someone called David Adams. He had an impressive resume but he never held any jobs that long.

They were to meet her in the ready room.

Riaan headed to the ready room to start the interviews she figured each perspective candidate could take approximately two hours.

==Ready Room==

Riaan got there a few minutes early and entered the ready room. A few minutes later a Be'Thal had escorted David Adams and pressed the chime. Riaan replied, enter. Be'Thal entered then introduced David Adams and left discreetly waiting outside for the interview to finish.

Riaan got up hello I am Ensign Riaan as she extended her hand. I see you are interested in helping out in our mess hall.

David extended his hand to Riaan's and replied I am David.

Riaan had noticed that David appeared unclean and appeared as if he slept in his clothing besides smelling like a brewery.

Riaan asked David if she could get him anything and he applied no thank you.

Riaan asked David to please take a seat. The two sat down to start the interview.

Riaan next asked David why he was interested in as a chef in the mess hall.

David replied, "I am interested in joining a ship and seeing the galaxy and I have very little training other then being a chef were I worked most of my life. I thought this would be a great way to explore the unknown and to get to meet many interesting people"

Riaan next asked David why he never stayed at his jobs for long.

David replied, after a while I was getting bored staying in one place and I wanted to see more then left but I knew I could get a job anywhere.

Riaan than asked, what can you contribute to this ship and what guarantee do we have that you won't leave in a few months.

David just sat there not sure how to respond looking at Riaan, then replied that he could not guarantee her that he would quiet in a few months and he wasn't sure how he could contribute.

Riaan then asked David if he had any questions.

Again David didn't say a thing.

Riaan then got up and thanked David for coming.

David got up and left the ready room.

Riaan knew that he was not cut that was for sure his record and his appearance spoke for itself and Riaan was pretty sure he was lying as to why he left. She was pretty sure he was fired due to being drunk at work and drinking on the job.

The interview lasted roughly an hour. Before David responded to any questions he appeared unsure and took time to think what to say. Riaan felt that he should have been able to respond right away but David was completely unsure of himself or hung over one or the other. She felt for sure that he would have asked her questions, which he didn't and this baffled her. She would inform later that he was being turned down and thank him for applying.

Riaan still had thirty minutes for the next interview. She was hoping the next was going to be better than this one.

==Operations Office==

Riaan looked at her PADD to see who was next. Sandy Loo was booked at 1100hrs. She had a great resume and seemed like a very good possibility. She had been employed for many years before she took time off due to her mom being ill and she was needed at home. She had a great reference from her prior employee on earth besides the nurses that came to help relieve Sandy at times.

Be'Thal pressed the chime to the Operations Room.

Riaan replied enter.

Be'Thal entered then introduced Sandy to Riaan.

Riaan extended her hand to Sandy and replied I am Ensign Riaan. Is there anything I can get you?

Sandy replied please water and thank you.

Riaan picked up the jug of cold water and poured a cold glass of water and handed the glass to Sandy. Riaan and Sandy almost sat down simultaneously.

Riaan found Sandy to be well dressed and well mannered.

Riaan then started the interview, so why are you interested in helping out in our mess hall.

Sandy automatically replied, I love helping others and if I can crack a joke or two and cheer up the crew that makes me happy to see others happy and laughing. While looking after my mom I learned that laughter was the best medicine. Sandy then lowered her head and apologized, sorry I was thinking of my mom she had passed away not long ago and I am now trying to find my way. She had cancer and the doctors couldn't do much other then make her feel comfortable. I did everything for her including quieting my job to be there when she needed someone to tend to her every call. I figure also maybe the crew may need a good ear someone to listen to them and not prejudge him or her, someone they may not feel threatened to.

I also love cooking and spent many years in the field and I have my degree as a chef and served at a fancy restaurant and I figure the crew probably would love some fancy meals periodically if you don't mind speaking my mind.

I heard replicators don't offer the healthiest of foods so I feel that a home cooked meal should perk the crew's moral and well being having a nourishing meal.

Riaan liked Sandy's answer she seemed genuine.

Riaan then asked Sandy, "How can you contribute to the ship?"

Again it didn't take Sandy long to respond, I can help boast the moral of the crew, be a confidant to the crew, make healthy meals and if in a crisis I know how to tend to the ill and I can lend an extra hand if need be. During my mother's illness I became qualified as a nurse that was the only way the doctor's would allow me to take care of my mother without having someone watching her instead of me.

Riaan then asked are there any questions you wish to ask me?

Sandy asked do I have to attend the academy to apply for a chef in the mess hall.

Riaan replied that wasn't necessary with her being a civilian.

Sandy then asked what about my hours what will they be?

At the present I cannot state there are three shifts and you may be assigned to any of those shifts and if you are accepted you will then be added to our duty roster.

Sandy thanked Riaan and extended her hand to shake and Riaan accepted.

Sandy got up and left and Riaan definitely knew that Sandy was one who would be accepted. She was well mannered, had a good perspective of things and had an impressive resume.

The next perspective candidate was scheduled for 1430 and Riaan had plenty of time for lunch before reporting back to Op's Office and reviewing the next resume.

Riaan looked briefly at her PADD to see who was next. Jamie Oxford was booked at 1430hrs. Her resume was very brief and she appeared rather young. Riaan placed the PADD on the desk and headed off for lunch.

Riaan wasn't too sure if she would be able to see everyone that was booked today, it depended how long each interview took.

==Mess Hall==

Riaan headed over to the replicator and ordered a hamburger with a coffee. After she picked up her tray and headed over to a table in the corner. Not many crew were here she figured they were all enjoying themselves on Qul Tuq, which she wished that she were doing.

After a bit of time to herself and a chance to clear her head she headed back to Op's Office and noticed Be'Thal standing there with someone.

==Operations Office==

Be'Thal introduced Jamie and stated that Jamie had another appointment Riaan stated that was not a problem and asked that Jamie please enter and take a seat.

Jamie arrived 45 minutes early for her interview.

Riaan had noticed that the jug was refilled and had offered Jamie a glass. She replied no thank you. Riaan noticed that she appeared nervous and was rather young.

She was well mannered and appropriately dressed for the interview.

Riaan then started the interview, so why are you interested in helping out in our mess hall.

I have just graduated from high school not long ago and I am still trying to find my way and I felt this was a good place to start besides exploring and learning more about the vast universe. I thought I can advance my education on my off time and who knows what other opportunities await me. I understand your reservations on wanting to hire me because of my age and not having prior experience but I was hoping that you would give me a chance. I am a hard worker and I am willing to do anything you ask of me.

Riaan then asked Sandy, "How can you contribute to the ship?"

I can help boast the crewmembers moral, keep the mess hall clean and whatever else you may need my assistance with or the one in charge of the mess hall. I am willing to do whatever needs to be done, including outside the mess hall.

Riaan then asked are there any questions you wish to ask me?

Jamie asked are there any specific qualifications for this position.

Riaan replied that weren't any prerequisites required for the position.

Jamie thanked Riaan and extended her hand to shake and Riaan accepted.

Jamie got up and left. Riaan wanted to be fair and give Jamie a chance she knew how hard it was getting a job. She was hoping that the Captain would agree with all her decisions. She seemed very nice and sounded genuine that she wanted this job and would be willing to do anything she could to assist. Riaan figured with her age she would be a quick learner.

She also noticed that she was Iotian and knew or heard how they loved to imitate others and thought this would definitely spice up the mess hall when Jamie decided to imitate one of the crew and the fact they had a great sense of humor even though she personally never meet one before till now. Riaan knew she was far from her home world and probably was lonely and scared just starting out on her own and she wanted to give her a chance.

The next perspective candidate was scheduled for 1530. Gary Kevin Blicker had a sketchy resume and appeared unreliable. Riaan had a hard time keeping a straight face for some reason. It was an odd name that's for sure and Riaan figured that Gary took a lot of ribbing in school.

Qul Tuq (promenade)

Teilani was on the station for some days now and still she was impressed by the sheer size of it. When fully occupied Qultuq could easily have about maybe 1,000 people on board not to mention those who were on route to another destination.

Teilani was curious how her 2 patients were doing and decided to pay them a visit after she had picked up her dress from the tailor shop. She never cared much for dresses and in her childhood her father always called her his little wildcat. But sometimes you have to indulge yourself, Teilani thought as she entered the tailor shop.

"Welcome, welcome, Dr Dane," Yousef said smiling and rubbing his hands. "Come to pick up your garment yes? Yes, it is all finished yes, maybe you would like to try it one on more time yes"

Teilani stepped into the fitting room and slipped on the dress, as she came out of the fitting room she saw more than just a professional look in Yousef's eyes. "What is it?" Teilani said with an icy voice. "Stop staring at me."

"Forgive me," Yousef said, while a little drizzle of drool ran along his chin. "I've never seen such beautiful woman, yes quite beautiful. Maybe yes, you would like to join me for drink later yes?"

"Not in your lifetime," Teilani responded, shaking her head, while looking in the mirror. Ok she admitted he was right the dress was stunning, made out of a seagreen fabric which corresponded with her green eyes, small shoulder bands, nothing revealing and yet very sexy. Teilani went back into the dressing room and changed back into her uniform. "Wrap it up please," she said as she gave the dress to Yousef, who kept looking like her if she was the last woman on Mars.

Teilani became irritated. "One more look tailor guy," she hissed, "and I will make you eat this dress."

The threat of it made Yousef back off and in a short while he came back, with the dress wrap in a tightly need package.

After Teilani had handed him the required latinum she was glad to leave the shop and getting away of Yousef's prying eyes.

There was so much to see and to do on the station, Teilani enjoyed herself so much that she did not look where she was going when suddenly she bumped into a man.

All her purchases dropped onto the floor and while she blushed and hastily tried to pick them up she mumbled, "I am so sorry Sir, I did not see you, are you hurt??"

"I'm fine thanks," he said, smiling at her and helping her pick up the things she dropped.

As she looked up, her green eyes stared into brown ones. She saw the fine lines around them, lines of laughter, worriers and much more. In an instance, Teilani thought he wanted to kiss her, there was some sort of attraction between them. Teilani broke the silence as she said, "Again I am sorry sir." She stuck out her hand. "My name is Teilani Dane, doctor on board the USS Zion."

"Commander Jim Hawkins," he said, shaking her hand. "Commander of Qul Tuq. I see you're making the most of your shore leave," he added.

"Very nice to meet you Commander," she said smiling back at him. "True, I've never been on a station this big and who knows when you ever get the chance again." Teilani desperately tried to keep the packages in one hand, gosh she though I feel like a teenager. Get a grip girl.

Teilani blew a strand of her red hair out of her face as she continued. "I do not want to impose but I would like to make it up to you, especially because of that." Teilani pointed towards 2 big dirty spots on the otherwise very clean uniform of Commander Hawkins. She hesitated for a moment. "Maybe you would like to have dinner with me tonight, nothing special, and perhaps you can tell me a bit more about the station."

He looked at her for a moment, putting one of the packages back into her arms. "Sure, that'd be nice," he said. "Nineteen hundred hours, at Quark's. See you then?"

"Ok Nineteen hundred hours, it is" she responded, "see you then", then she turned and walked away.

As she was walking back to her quarters, thoughts kept racing through her mind, would cmdr Hawkins be able to tell her more about the destruction of the Kittyhawk, might he have an idea who was behind it? She surely hoped so.

==Teilani’s quarters==

After her little bump in with commander Hawkins, Teilani went back to her quarters, in order to stow away her packages. As the Zion was currently undergoing repairs and only a skeleton crew was on board, Teilani had booked quarters on the station. They were smaller then those on the Zion but it fitted her needs.

As she entered the room she instinctively felt that something was out of the ordinary. There was a man in her quarters, gazing out of the window. Standing in the doorway, Teilani felt an absurd desire to say “Excuse me” and back out of the room before the analytical portion of her brain kick in.

The man was a middle aged human, medium height, and built. He wore a moderately pleasant expression the kind of bland, neutral smile that Teilani would feel incline to return while waiting for a turbolift.

However, the man’s most noteworthy characteristic was his eyes, which were a startling sapphire blue. “Dr Dane”, the man said, “It is a pleasure to finally meet you”.

Teilani slapped her combadge and spoke quickly: “Dane to security, intruder alert, request armed assistance in my quarters immediately”.

The man’s smile did not waver. “I am sorry Doctor, your co-workers aren’t receiving you at the moment”. “We cannot afford any interruptions”. “Now that you know where things stand I’d like to introduce myself”. “Please call me O’Neill”. “I’am affiliated with the organization you call Section 31, you might have heard of it?”

Teilani nodded as she moved to a chair and sat down, realizing she had no option but to indulge the unwelcome visitor, at least for now.

“I can only assume this isn’t a social call” she said. “Correct doctor, what I am about to tell you is of vital importance for the survival of the Maqui as well as Starfleet”.

Riaan had read Gary Blickers resume. He was a trader for some time before changing jobs. He seemed to switch jobs roughly every 4 years, which was a concern for Riaan. Would he want to suddenly change if he were accepted or not and why did he not stick at jobs for extended periods.

Be'Thal entered Operations Office and introduced Gary Blicker.

Riaan got up and extended her hand to Gary and he responded back.

Riaan replied, nice meeting you please take a seat. She noticed he was appropriately dressed and cleanshaven.

Riaan thanked Be'Thal and she exited and waited outside.

Riaan asked Gary if he wanted a glass of water?

He replied no thank you.

Riaan then started the interview, so why are you interested in helping out in our mess hall.

Gary replied that he needed a change with his career and this seemed like a good idea. I was tired of working in a mine and being underground besides the hazards that came along. I am also interested in meeting other cultures and seeing the universe and this seemed a perfect opportunity, even though I am not qualified nor have I ever worked in a mess hall before.

Riaan then asked Gary, "How can you contribute to the ship?"

I can help keep the mess hall clean and the ship, help in other areas moving and hauling cargo or whatever needs to be done, replied Gary to Riaan.

Riaan then asked Gary why he never stayed at the various jobs that he has had over the years.

Gary replied after being a trader and lifting heavy cargo and dealing with pirates it was too risky and dangerous and there was a high loss of revenue. As I stated in the mine it was too dangerous and I like to see the universe and I get tired of being in one spot for a very long time her I get the best of both, I get a stable job and I get to see the universe and meet interesting cultures along the way and the risk factors I am assuming are minimal.

Riaan then asked are there any questions you wish to ask me?

Gary asked what are the risk factors serving onboard this vessel?

Riaan replied the risk factors are minimal but one can expect confrontations they are unavoidable at times. It is hard to prejudge the risk factors serving onboard. It also depends how you consider danger personally speaking I can't say for you either.

Riaan then asked Gary are there any more questions you wish to ask me.

Gary replied no that was it. Gary got up and thanked Riaan for her time and she replied your welcome. He then left.

Riaan was concerned with Gary moving around so much and the risk factor was too high on accepting him. She wasn't sure to believe his story or not and decided it was best to play it safe. They didn't need someone wanting to change careers while they were in no man space sort a speaking. In general Riaan thought the interview went fine

The next perspective candidate was scheduled for 1630. She still had 20 minutes before he arrived.

Qul Tuq

Teilani’s quarters (habitat ring section G 21)

Teilani was still getting used to the fact that someone had entered her quarters without permission and especially an agent from Section 31. Section 31 an organization which was responsible for weaving plans with plans, building governments within governments. Eliminating opponents if they were a pestering insect. What could she possible do for them?.

“Look” Teilani said, “I’m not interested in working with Section 31”. “O’right O’Neill responded, but you might change your mind when you ‘ve heard me out”. Teilani rose from her chair, feeling her anger trying to escape. She knew instinctively that O’Neill was probably armed, a trained killer but she didn’t care.

All Teilani could think about was lifting the man up by the scruff of this neck and tossing him out of her quarters. She knew it wasn’t the most sensible thought she had and she would never manage it but it was a satisfyingly direct.

‘Sit down Doctor”, O’Neill said, not raising his voice. Teilani stopped moving, then found herself settling back in her chair. “You will do me the courtesy of hearing me out”. Against her will, Teilani nodded.

“One thing I’ve learned, Doctor, is that the best place to hide is where you enemies don’t wish to look”. Despite the brutal intrusion Teilani was interested in what the man was saying. O’Neil continued, “I came here to discuss with you Dr Ethan Sinclair”. “Name mean anything to you”? Teilani shook her head. “I’m not surprised, he was, I assume, trying to keep a low profile”.

“Why come to me”, Teilani said, “I don’t know him, have never seen any paper published by him”. “Ah, O’Neill responded, very well reasoned, Doctor”. “Excellent point”. O’Neill handed her a PADD. “This contains all the data we have on him”, O’Neill said. “Read it carefully”. “Dr Sinclair was somewhat more receptive to our invitation than you”. “After Sinclair agreed to assist us, he underwent training to become an agent”. “I must say he exceeded our expectations”. O’Neill paused for a minute before he continued. “Then we found him a mission”. “We flattered ourselves, believing it was the perfect one”. “So of course, O’Neill continued, he betrayed us”.

Several seconds ticked passed during which Teilani suspected, she was supposed to offer a comment. She decided to be spiteful, and so, finally O’Neill continued.

“During a routine survey missing we discovered a hatchery, yes Doctor, a hatchery of Superhumans, bread especially without emotions, loyal to only one person, the perfect killer machines”. “Something to think about late at night, isn’t it Doctor”? “Calculate how many more ships, and soldiers Starfleet needed to turn the tide, to become the most powerful force in the galaxy” “We can not allow this to happen”. O’Neill paused again as he stared out the window. “As I was saying the hatchery we found as undefended and abandoned”. “Our scientist tried to adjust the DNA resequencers and distributed the red dust to a minimum rate to that the “patients” would wake up and be loyal to us”. “Needless to say that we failed”.

“You bloody fools”, Teilani said. “A comment Doctor”, O’Neill asked. Teilani continued. “How could you think for even a moment that anyone in the Federation or even in the entire quadrant would tolerate this”. “Breeding humans for canon fodder”. O’Neill regarded Teilani for several seconds, then slowly raised his hands and clapped them together half a dozen times. “Bravo Doctor, he said, you have a flair for oratory”.

Teilani sight and then continued, “What can I do about it”. “I have no experience in this field”. “Where should I find this Dr Sinclair”. “I can not go race off in the unknown”. “I have no idea where our next mission will lead us to”. “Finding the good doctor himself is our responsibility, Doctor”, O’Neill replied. “We want you to find out how he converted the DNA resequencing and what the red dust is all about, then you must destroy any information you might come across”. ”Of course after you have informed us”. “Our goals, Doctor will and are the same in this case”. “We do not need a mad scientist launching a jihad with an army of genetically engineered killing machines at this back”.

“Especially not a scientist who knows everything about you”, Teilani added. A tight smile flickered across O’Neill’s lips, “nobody knows everything about us doctor”. “There are others who can do what your asking, Teilani continued, most of them are better then me”. O’Neill smiled, “Doctor you underestimate yourself, in fact there isn’t anyone better suited!” “Who will ever suspect a woman snooping around”. Teilani glanced at O’Neill, she felt like a caged animal.

“We are counting on you, Doctor”, O’Neill said as he walked to the door. “Don’t let us down”, with a woosh the door opened and O’Neill was gone, leaving Teilani behind, her mind filled with questions, doubts etc. How could she make a difference?

Patia leaned back from her work. Stretching her fingers toward the ceiling, her back gave a satisfying crack. Slowly, she rotated her head clockwise, then counter clock wise. Feet planted firmly on the floor, Patia contracted the muscles in her calves, working out the stiffness that comes with sitting in one position too long. Her stomach rumbled, glancing quickly at the chronometer she noticed it was after 1700. Breakfast had been a long time ago and recent journal articles had obviously been more interesting than she had thought they would be since she hadn’t taken a break for lunch.

Her movements quick and confident, she strode from her perch at her desk to the replicator. “Raspberry Iced Tea, with two fresh raspberries, and saltines,” Patia’s stomach rumbled as she spoke. Taking the plate as it materialized, she turned back to her work.

Patia settled on her left foot, tucking it up tightly under her body. Tilting forward, she stared at the computer monitor. Absent-mindedly, she reached for a cracker. The information regarding post traumatic stress issues was endlessly fascinating. As she perused the article, she jotted notes on her PADD. She would be introducing new techniques at the next group therapy session. This information would be invaluable.

She reached for her glass, only to find it empty. The scent of raspberries still clung to the glass, but not a drop of tea remained. Glancing again at her chronometer, she noticed it was after 1830. She had worked late enough that it wouldn’t be convenient to move to Qul Tuq for an evening’s recreation. An uneasy feeling fluttered through her consciousness as she thought of Qul Tuq. Something she didn’t want to deal with was waiting for her there, she just knew it. Tomorrow, she would leave the Zion. Tomorrow would be soon enough to face the demon on Qul Tuq
