| Childhood (birth to Adult): | Melissa grew up on a Federation colony near the Cardassian border with the Federation. Her family were farmers by trade. Since Melissa had no brothers she helped her parents manage the farm. She would consider herself a tomboy as a child because of this. Melissa enjoyed life in the colony, however, she longed for more and decided at an early age that she would take to the stars someday.
After the Federation war with Cardassia she and the rest of her people were forced to relocate. At first the colonists resisted attempts to move them and were successful until the Cardassians began raiding their village. After the loss of several members of her community the elders agreed to be moved. The relocation was Melissa's first experience in space. She was instantly drawn to the idea of space travel. Melissa's community was relocated, however, it did not last long. The experience aboard the transfer vessel proved to be too tempting for many of her people and they did not stay long. Melissa was no different, when she turned 18 she left the new colony and made her way to the Maquis. |

| Early Education | Melissa was schooled at home by her parents. She would occasionally attend classes with the other children in the colony, but only if her duties on the farm permitted. | ||
| Starfleet Career |
When the Maquis Academy opened Melissa was among the first to enroll. She could think of no better to be that with the very people who opposed the Cardassians. Melissa excelled in her first year at the Academy. She was hungry for knowledge and eagerly took in everything she was taught. It was during her first year that Melissa was offered an opportunity that would change her life. She was enrolled in a special cross training program with the Imperial Klingon Fleet. The program was hard and she was tested at every turn, however, she would not allow herself to fail. She learned a lot about the Klingon culture and found their understanding of honor and loyalty to fit well with her own ideals. She also discovered her own warrior spirit. She completed her remaining studies at the Academy and did her cadet training cruise about the USS FoxTrot. Upon her graduation, she was assigned to the Security detail on QulTuq Station. She was later transferred to the USS Zion's security department and was later promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and assigned the job of Chief of Security. The unusual, move by Captain Hunter was taken after his original choice of Chief's was killed in the USS Kittyhawk disaster. |

| Interests | Melissa is interested in the Klingon Culture. Her classmates at the academy used to joke that she was obsessed. Melissa is also a student of history. You will find a variety of history books on her book shelf. | ||
| Personality Profile |
Melissa is a fairly even tempered person. Her experience on Qultuq Station has taught her to read people and to be patient. As a result she is usually not one to start trouble, however, she usually finish it. Melissa was once engaged to an Engineer at QulTuq named Charles Atwood. During that time she put her career ambitions aside for the love of a man. She and Charles transferred to the USS Zion together and when their relationship ended badly he rededicated to her career vowing never again to let relationships get in the way of her career. |

| Special Notes: | Dispite her decision not to get involved again she did have a brief relationship with a Klingon warrior named Korg. Melissa considered their relationship a passing one, however, shortly before dying in the battle of Pacifica Korg proclaimed her as his mate. | ||

Melissa is a Master of Klingon martial arts. She is also proficient in the use of the Batleth. She is an expert marksman with a phaser and phaser rifle. She has extensive training in crowd management, threat assessment and tactical advantage. Melissa can speak Klingon, Bajoran fluently. She is in the process of learning the Vulcan language. | ||
