A soft snorring came from the doctors office, and anybody which would be looking around the corner would see Teilani fast asleep. Her head lied on the desk and her arms curled around it.
"Doctor!" yelled the marine medic who assisted the young marine who hobbled on one leg.
"Ma'am, we have a minor injury," said the medic, "Private Dunson injuried his ankle."
Teilani startled as she woke up, she had dozed off for a second and rapidly blinked. She got up and quickly walked to the door.
Trying to hide a yawn she re-directed the Marines to the examination room.
"Go sit on there Mr Dunson," she said patting one of the bio beds.
Obediently the young man complied.
"Can you tell me what happened?" Teilani asked, getting her tricorder.
"Yes Ma'am," said the Marine with a wince as Teilani examined his leg, "we were training, I fell off an engineering catwalk. If the safety protocols weren't on, I suppose it would have been much worse."
"I see, were you practising in the dark then." she asked. Madriani must be mad having these guys training in engineering in the dark.
"Uhm, no Ma'am, just regular training."
"What kind of training were you doing so early in the morning?" "Simulated take over of an enemy ship Ma'am, the CO wants us to be ready on a moments notice."
She carefully scanned the young privates ankle. "You have just sprained it. I can give you something for the pain and the rest is up to you. You need to have at least 3 days of rest. Keep your leg elevated and do not put pressure on it. It will be fine then."
The young man looked disappointed.
Suddenly Madriani entered sickbay he approached them. "Good morning Doctor," he said.
"Major," Teilani replied. Keeping her eyes on the young private. She grinned a little as she noticed the disappointed look on Dunson's face. He probably wanted some time off.
He nodded at the marine on the biobed, "How is he?"
"He will be fine in a few days, his ankle is not broken but severely sprained. I am afraid you have to miss him for a few days". Teilani administered some pain killers to the young private and then turned her attention to Madriani.
Madriani frowned. "Can he at least man the weapons bay?"
"I think he can. In three days that is. I might be able to make that 2 if he comes back tomorrow." Teilani responded placing her tricorder back at the little table.
Madriani's frown deepened more. He nodded at the two men, "Dismissed."
They gingerly left sickbay.
Madriani turned to the Doctor, "May I have a word with you in private?"
"By all means Major," Teilani said gesturing to her office.
She walked in and after getting her self a steaming hot coffee she sat down behind her desk.
"What can I do for you?"
Madriani held up his hand, "No thanks."
He cleared his throat, "I'll keep this brief..." Madriani looked the most uncomfortable Dane had ever seen him. "The last time we met, my behavior was less than exemplary. For that I apologize."
He stood somewhat at attention as if to permit himself to be judged by Dane.
Teilani scrutinized him, she had not forgotten the way he had treated her and her crew that time. She took another sip from her coffee and grinned. Let him sweat for a moment, she thought.
Madriani stood with out moving waiting for her to respond.
Then after a few moments she said. "Apologies accepted Major."
Madriani assumed an "at ease" stance, "Thank-you Doctor, if you will excuse me we have further preparations."
Teilani nodded and watched Madriani leave. She then leaned back in her chair and finished her coffee.
Madriani turned and left.
