It had been seven hours since the incident with Birkoff and the virus he unleashed on the Zion's computer, and Maxine had been through the system with a fine tooth comb. She was just now making her report to Commander Wright....

Re: Computer analysis and recommendations.

Sir-

As per your request, I've made a thorough analysis of the Zion's computer systems. I discovered several "back doors" that Birkoff left and some inert traces of his virus. Rest assured that they have all been eradicated. Please see the attached file, Tapert-CA101, for a detailed description of everything I found and what I did to neutralize it. I have installed a "back door" of our own so that we can regain control of the computer in case this ever happens again. Please see the attached file, Tapert-BD377 for instructions on how to access and activate it.

I would also recommend that we take this opportunity to upgrade our security protocols and encryption algorithms. I have designed a program that would insert into the system a series of coded failsafes which should make the computer virtually impossible to hack into, and would require voice authorization from either you or the Captain to perform certain functions. Please see the attached file, Tapert-FS2009 for approval.

I have also taken the liberty of adjusting and rerouting the replicator system in the Mess Hall to operate independent of the main computer - if necessary.

Maxine read over her report again and checked the attached files before sending it off with a, "Computer, deliver the missive complete with the attached files to Commander Wright and copies to Lt. JG Riaan. Mark it 'Urgent'."

"The messages have been delivered," the computer promptly responded. And with that out of the way, Maxie decided it was time for something to eat.
