Breaking up "

It was late when Sam entered their quarters. Charles was fast a sleep and did not move as she bumped into a chair. Sam looked at him, something had changed between them, ever since they had their argument during the siege. Somehow Sam did not feel comfortable in their relationship anymore and perhaps it was time to take some distance.

She sighed. She remembered an old earth song called Breaking up is hard to do. How appropriate. Softly she walked to the desk in the corner and started to prepare a letter.

“Computer, start recording.”

Dear Charles,

I am writing this letter with pain in my heart and I will not beat around the bush. Something has changed between us, something I can not understand and perhaps I do not want to understand.

At the moment I do not feel comfortable anymore, there is a distance between us, a distance which is difficult to cross. We fell in love too quickly and that can never be good, true love needs to grow, cultured and nurtured like a young sapling.

Charles, Imzadi I have to leave you. Your love which is so great for me, smothers me, holds me back to follow my own destiny. I am breaking off our engagement and I am sure you will disagree with me, and will try to talk me out of it. Please do not try too, it will only cause me more pain.

Don’t get me wrong I still love you but this is something I have to do for myself. It be best if we don’t see each other for a while.

“Computer end recording, and save.”

Sam brushed away a tear from her cheek as she stood up. From the cupboard she got a bag and started packing her belongings. After she had finished she walked back to the sleeping area and watched Charles.

“Goodbye Charles,” she whispered. Sam turned around and left their quarters. Taking the turbolift to Deck 2 Sam entered her own quarters. Not bothering to undress she threw her self on the bed after some tossing and turning she finally fell asleep.
