“Computer, check the logs and see if other crew have been assigned to an exchange for the next four days”
Patiently Sam waited until the computer had finished checking and only one name came up. Dr Alyssa Northrop. Sam sighed, she had heard from the crew that this girl was not one of the easiest to get along with, bit hot tempered and easily distracted. But then again, judging from her personnel record she would be a good asset on this little mission.
Sam tapped her combadge, Carter to Dr
Northrop
Alyssa turned on the comm panel built into the desk in her quarters. She'd only just gotten back from dinner with Patia.....so it was quite a surprise when the panel beeped. Computer must have known that she wasn't wearing her comm badge. "Northrop here. What can I do for you, Ms. Carter?"
Dr, if you have time would you like to get
together and discuss the upcoming exchange with the
Klingons?
The Archaeologist looked at the chronometer on the wall, "I suppose that would be ok. Would you like to come by my quarters so that we can discuss it?"
"That would be fine, Im on my way, Carter out."
Sam took a PADD with some Information dealing with Klingons on it with her and made her way to Dr. Northrop's quarters.
Having arrived she hit the doorchime.
Alyssa put down the PADD she'd been reading when the door chimmed. Getting up, she walked over to the door to press the button to open the door, "Ah...Ms. Carter. Please come in."
"Good evening, Doctor," she said while her eyes looked through the room.
It was hard not to notice Carter checking out her quarters. Alyssa simply smiled, "Can I get you something to drink? I see you brought a PADD...."
"Yes, I thought it would be a good idea to brush up on some Klingon knowledge, rules, food etc."
She nodded, "How much experience do you have dealing with Klingons, Ms. Carter?"
It would be a serious culture shock for anyone who wasn't ready for it.
"Lets just say I have have my share of dealings with them Dr Northrop. I do understand and speak Klingon. Also I do know a little of their culture, but it is never wrong to be prepared."
Alyssa nodded, this was true. "So you speak Klingon?" she asked, in Klingon. Smiling, "Any particular reason you learned?"
Sam smiled back. "Let's just say that I had a very good Klingon friend a long time ago. He taught me the language, the bragging, and some of the fighting skills," she responded in flawless Klingon.
"Ah...I see." Alyssa smiled, knowingly. "I learned because I like languages." She blushed a bit, "One of my former students liked to tell people I was better than a universal translator."
Sam chuckled. "That is good to hear. At least we don't have to be afraid the translator will break down as we have you to translate for us. Anyway as I was thinking," Sam said. "We could do..." both girls looked at the padd and discussed their way of dealing with klingons. For the next hours or so they had fun in speaking Klingon, making jokes about certain klingon behaviourism.
"Any way," Sam said eventually, "I think this more or less concludes it."
Northrop let her hands fall to her knees, landing with a little bit of a slap. "Yeah...I suppose it does."
Glancing over at the chronometer, "Wow....it's late. We better get to bed. The Klingons will be expecting us bright and early." She smiled. "This was fun, Sam....I enjoyed it."
“Me too Doctor,” Sam responded while trying to hold back a yawn. “I will see you tomorrow, goodnight.”
