Of all the people she knew it was something she had least expected. But how would she react, it had been ages since they had spoken, would it make any difference this time?
Despite her moody thoughts Teilani found it was time to cheer herself up and go down to the promenade. In de Italian restaurant they should have some delishious coffee types and even thought Mr Knott the masseur had told her to drink more water, she had to reduce her caffeine intake graduatly.
Then after a coffee she would go to the small tailershop called Between silk and Lace and see if they had some nice shirts and perhaps some shorts, then to top it off she would by herself a big bunch of yellow roses.
**** Promenade *****
A seat was easily found when Teilani entered the Italian restaurant. 'Bueno sera Signorina, how may I help you? one of the waiters say.
'Hello, I would like to have a big machiatto if possible,' Teilani asked.
'Of course, one moment.'
A short while later the waiter came back with indeed a big glass filled with a macchiato, topped with a creamy foam and a small pinch of cinnamon. The smell was awsome.
It was nice just sitting and watch the various visitors of QT pass by, there were so many of them, Bajorans, Humans, some klingons, etc. After her coffee Dane stood up and leizurely browsed the little shops. Amused she watched as people were crowded around QT local news stand. Apperentl a new newspaper was bout to come out.
****Flower shop*****
"Hello, any body here? she asked as she entered the floral shop. The windowdisplay was divine... soft colours of flowers, delicatly arranged around some sparkling crystals and lace cloths.
Trina heard her customer enter. With her hands full of lilies, she quietly parted the bejeweled curtain which separated the work area from the display area. "How may I help you?"
"Oh hello Ms," Teilani said looking up from having sniffed at a gorgeous looking yellow spotted orchid.
"I was wondering if you have some yellow roses?"
"Sweetheart or large bloom," she asked, with one eyebrow slightly raised.
"What is the difference between the 2," Teilani asked softly.
"Mostly the size," Trina smiled. "The sweethearts are slightly smaller, the petals hold together tighter, and they typically last a little longer because it takes slightly longer for them to open."
"Then Sweethearts it is."
"How many would you like? And would you like them arranged or just wrapped?" Trina asked.
"I think about 10 will do, and you can just wrapp them. They are for myself."
"Ah," Trina shifted her head slightly, "but what will you do with them when you have them in your quarters? Even for just yourself they could be arranged if you like."
Teilani smiled. "Well i have this crystal vase and perhaps you are right to have them arranged, could you do that for me then?"
"Of course, I can. I will arrange them, then wrap them so you can unfold the paper and slide them into the vase, ready for display," she smiled softly.
"Oh also I was wondering I have this ficus in my office and for some reason the leaves are getting some yellow spots. You don't happen to know how that is possible right?"
"What type of lighting are you using? And how frequently do you water it?" she asked.
"Well the light is always set at 45 % illumination. I water it well about once a week actually."
"What quality of lighting are you using at that illumination? And how much water do you consider watering well? Is it a set measurement or based on the feel of the soil? Is this a plant you have raised yourself?" Trina chuckled. "I am just full of questions today."
"Its regular office lighting. I just feel the soil and when it is dry i give them water. Teilani grinned. "No no it was a gift but I am not that good with live plants to be honest."
"No matter what people say, it is a talent more than a skill, I think. My sister-in-law, who is intelligent and capable in almost all manners will never have live plants, ever. She loves cut blooms, loves to look at plants, but her black thumb kills them with hardly any trouble at all," Trina chuckled.
Teilani laughed. "I guess we all have different talents then."
"Very true," she nodded. "You might want to cut back on the watering, just a little," she said. "Sometimes overwatering causes those yellow spots."
"I will take on your advise, besides I am a doctor so I can always check if it has enough vitamins and such." Teilani looked on how Trina wrapped up 10 yellow roses.
Trina nodded in reply. "I can understand, but plants speak a different language than our bodies. What we would need, they don't, and they don't easily tell us of our errors," she smiled slightly. "I had a beautiful dicsa when I first started. It was a gift from the previous owner of the floral shop I took over. I loved it, the symbolism of it, the beauty, and I thought I took care of it in the proper way. The gorgeous purple leaves faded to a light pink, the flowers fell off, it was horrible. I called Margeolva and told her what was happening. She told me to listen to the plant, what had I done, what should I do? I cut back on the watering, changed the fertilizer, and look," she gestured to a towering plant in the corner. "I would say I finally learned its language," she winked.
Deftly, her fingers inserted crystal beads and bronze filigree in with the roses and greens. With a satisfied nod, she wrapped the flowers in clear sheeting, the flash of light from the beads still visible. She handed the bouquet to Teilani. "Your flowers, I hope they meet your expectations."
"They are lovely. Thank you.
